The Dissolution Tests for Shilajit Authenticity
Water solubility test is most popular and easy to do test to check purity of Shilajit. Dissolubility rate of any substance depends on multiple factors e.g. temperature, particles size and agitation. Pure Shilajit should have 4-7 minutes’ dissolution time. After dissolution pure Shilajit turns transparent water in reddish or brownish solution.
How to Do Dissolution Test?
Take a glass of warm water. Add pea size Shilajit resin and stir for 4-7 minutes. Pure Shilajt will transform transparent water into reddish or brownish water without any left-over. Any left-over particle or substance indicates mixing or impurities or contamination.
Shilajit is water soluble. Mixed or contaminated shilajit will left insoluble particles or any substance which will either float on top or settle at bottom. This test is the easiest to conduct at home.
Flame Test for Purity Level of Shilajit Quality
In chemistry ‘Flame Test’ is a qualitative analytical technique used to identify metal ions by heating a sample and observing the characteristic such as color change, flame etc. Highly pure Shilajit does not burn, it forms bubbly foam instead.
How to Do Flame Test?
To do this test, take pea size Shilajit resin with the help of metal spatula. Lit candle and put Shilajit resin on flame. Resin with high purity level will not burn and start forming bubble. Below criteria will indicate contaminated or adulterated Shilajit…
- resin starts burning
- produces black smoke
