In previous posts we have highlighted many research backed therapeutic benefits of beetroot. Go through following posts, in case you missed…
In this post we are discussing various studies that claimed anti-cancer property.
Beetroot’s Anti-cancer Properties
Beetroot has many organic compounds that have shown anti-cancer properties. Such compounds are betanins, rutin, ferulic acid, caffeic acid and kaempferol.
These compounds are known to have slowed down growth of cancerous cells – as per a study published at US National Library of Medicine. Authors of the study have emphasised more study to know pharmacology of anti-cancer property.
Another study found connection between higher level of betaine and lower the risk of cancer development.
However, it’s important to note that most studies on the topic have used isolated compounds rather than whole. Therefore, further research on beetroot consumption as part of a well-rounded diet and cancer risk is needed.
It should be noted that most of the studies have been conducted on individual compound instead of whole beetroot consumption. Hence comprehensive study is required about consuming beetroot.
