The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is convening a public meeting to obtain stakeholder input on dietary ingredient classifications, with a particular focus on proteins, enzymes, plant based powder and microbial ingredients.
Scheduled for March 27, 2026, the meeting is titled “Exploring the Scope of Dietary Supplement Ingredients.”
According to the FDA, feedback gathered during the session will support the agency in determining future actions related to the interpretation of dietary ingredient categories established under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994.
The meeting will feature presentations covering several key areas, including:
- The interpretation of the phrase “dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake” under DSHEA
- Emerging manufacturing methods for existing dietary ingredients
- Specific ingredient categories such as proteins, enzymes, and microbial substances
Attendees will have the opportunity to provide oral feedback during the meeting and submit written comments for FDA consideration.
Further information regarding registration and comment submission will be posted on the FDA’s official meeting webpage.
